How SalaryCalc calculates your take-home pay.
We apply the 2026 IRS marginal tax brackets after subtracting the standard deduction ($14,600 single / $29,200 married filing jointly). The brackets are 10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, 32%, 35%, and 37%.
Each state uses its 2026 published tax rates. Nine states have no income tax on wages (Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wyoming). Others use flat rates or progressive bracket systems. State standard deductions are applied where applicable.
Social Security: 6.2% on wages up to the $168,600 wage base. Medicare: 1.45% on all wages, plus an additional 0.9% on wages above $200,000 (single) or $250,000 (married).
